La route des croix

Datsit

Synopsis

When an accident happens on a road, sometimes the victim’s family and friends will put a cross or a shrine. This has two goals : remembering a tragedy took place but also that the soul of a loved one left earth there. These crosses are also a reminder, and a warning for other drivers. La route des croix takes you along some of the most dangerous and deadliest roads in the province of Quebec.

1) Route 138 – « La route de tous les dangers » (The Road of all Dangers)

2) Route 117 – « La sang-17 » (The Bloody-17)

3) Route 132 – « Collisions mortelles » (Fatal Collisions)

4) Route 155 – « Beauté mortelle » (Mortal Beauty)

Families and friends give emotional testimonies of the departed. With the help of outspoken expert, the series ask: could we have prevented those deaths?

Some of those fatalities are caused by driving drunk, falling asleep at the wheel, speeding, and weather conditions.  Sure the driver’s actions are sometimes a big part of the equation. But each of these highways also has its own deadly flaws: dangerous curves, lack of maintenance, steep slope, lack of passing lanes… Only one second of inattention and it is too late.

Each episode is about one highway, the crosses you can find on it, and the families, left behind, mourning. La route des croix is a powerful call to action and a reminder that roads kill!
