L'Héritier

Datsit

Synopsis

In 1938, Germany annexes Austria.  For Georges Jorisch, a 10 year old Austrian Jew, it is the start of a long nightmare.  He follows his father in exile, leaving behind his mother and grandmother, whom he will never see again.  The Nazis will take ownership of all their belongings, including his grandmother’s collection of paintings.

As the war ends, orphaned from family and country, Georges Jorisch immigrates to Canada, where he will raise his family of four children under difficult conditions.  In 1998, at the age of 70, Georges Jorsich becomes determined to find two paintings that belonged to his grandmother, and were painted by the grand master Gustav Klimt.

L’héritier tells the story of how one man waited his entire life for justice to be served and who became an inspiration and model for his granddaughter, Edith Jorisch.
